DIARY LOG

Day 1

Effort of work 7/10

Quality of work 8/10

We started generating ideas for our short film which makes it a lot easier for our pre-production task in the future, for example writing the script.

We were successful as my short film idea is set and good.
We need to improve on being certain about our ideas, so it links with the ending and the start.
I thought of the narrative, helped with camera angles and the theme.

Day 2

Effort of work 7/10

Quality of work 8/10

Today we started the our pre-production, in most of the lesson we came up with the location for our short film and started making our script today, which we have a base idea with an almost complete script.

I talked about the camera angles we could potentially be using for each scene in our short film, and created more ideas for extra scenes that might be needed.
I felt that I was very successful in this lesson to the point were we weren't behind on work.

Day 3

Effort of work 6/10

Quality of work 6/10

Today we continued with our script, but I focused on the location recce and change the narrative (overall structure), this impacted on our short film as it gives us less limited ideas.

I would say that I was successful enough to get the work done and more.

However, we didn't get round to doing the shot list and the production schedule. Which we will have to do in the next lesson. I helped with dialogue and actions in the script which was beyond my role.

I finished the location recce in the first lesson, meaning our location is good. I came up with a few endings that could work for our main shoot and our reshoot for extra shots if needed.

I was successful in both tasks as my ideas helped with the script.

Day 4

Effort of work: 7/10

Quality of work: 7/10

We started looking for the locations to film the scenes for our short film. We got photos for potential locations, but we now know the location for each key scene.
I helped finding the best locations for our shoot.

Day 5

Effort of work: 8/10

Quality of work: 7/10

We finished finding the locations, and finished all the pre-production work that was needed. Which was the location recce and the rest of the treatment.
I helped finding the best locations for our shoot.

Day 6

Effort of work: 7/10

Quality of work: 7/10

Today we blocked our short film, we managed to finish the blocking and we also found new ideas and errors that we could fix

We were successful in our lesson as now all we need to do is shoot the short film and edit it.

Day 7

Effort of work: 8/10

Quality of work: 8/10

In todays lesson we filmed cinematic shots.
We filmed cinematic shots at a good standard.

But now we need to film a few more key scenes.

I helped with organising shot types but also what sounds we could potentially.

Day 8

Effort of work: 8/10

Quality of work: 7/10

We started filming in the main character's house scenes.
We filmed a few key scenes including the main character putting the implant in his head.

However, some of the shots were grainy and had noise so we need to reshoot some shots.
I helped with directed shots.

Day 9

Effort of work: 8/10
Quality of work: 7/10

We filmed the main character's house scenes.
We filmed a few key scenes including the main character putting the implant in his head.
The group did this routine for the rest of the week.

However, some of the shots were grainy and had noise so we need to reshoot some shots.

I helped with directing the shots and getting sounds for the footage.

Day 10

 Effort of work: 9/10

Quality of work: 8/10

We filmed the main character's house scenes.
We filmed a few key scenes including the main character putting the implant in his head.

However, some of the shots were grainy and had noise so we need to re-shoot some shots.

I helped with directing the shots and getting sounds for the footage.

Day 11

Effort of work: 8/10

Quality of work: 8/10

We filmed the main character's house scenes.
We filmed a few key scenes including the main character putting the implant in his head, alongside eating a sandwich and making food.

However, some of the shots were blurry and had noise so we need to re-do parts.
I helped with live sound effects in the shoot.

Day 12

Effort of work: 8/10

Quality of work: 7/10

We filmed the main character's therapist scenes.
We filmed a few key scenes including the main character having a therapist meeting.

However, some of the shots were too dark or lines were forgotten so we need to re-shoot some shots.
I helped with directing the shots, but not many scenes needed audio recording as it was dialogue based.

Day 13

Effort of work: 8/10

Quality of work: 7/10

Same as yesterday, we filmed the main character's therapist scenes.
We filmed a few key scenes including the main character having a therapist meeting.

However, we found that the files for these scenes were to big to email one-another .
I helped with directing the shots, but not many scenes needed audio recording as it was dialogue based.

Today we finalised our editing for the house and therapist scenes and added special effects that were needed, but we realised we needed to film an extra scene.

Day 17

Effort of work: 7/10

Quality of work: 7/10

Today we filmed the main protagonist in his car driving, with the therapist version of himself in the back seat.

We filmed scenes including the main character in the car but a short clip of him coming out of the car, which took longer then needed.

However, we found that the footage was shaky or blurry, but we worked around that by making it add an effect to the end product.

I helped with directing the shots, but not many scenes needed audio recording as it was dialogue based.

Day 18

We re-shot bedroom scenes from the beginning, to add to the start.
However, we found that the files for these scenes were to big to email one-another.

SUMMARY

I personally believe that we did well in finishing our short film. We worked together efficiently and managed our time productively, which was a beneficial factor to the task.

We are a collection of students from a Media Class in Long Road Sixth Form College. We worked collectively through our independent working, but also our team bouncing capabilities. We have adjusted and handled each-other as a team which has allowed us to reflect off of each-other. We are all based in Cambridge and have been brought up in a comparable location to each-other which has made us nearer each physically and mentally. We have had set backs, we've had two damaged bones but we've managed to deal with these dilemmas and have produced a great short film. My role was being the sound designer, this was new to me but it became interesting as I was able to experiment with style and mixing sounds. We haven't had any assist from adults, in spite of getting access to teachers from college and from our parents, we managed to create this movie in simple terms from our very own insights and knowledge and feature placed our very own independent questioning toward both the storyline of the quick movie and the cinematography, with our personal unique factors, including sound and special effects. I can say this for the rest of our group in saying that we are very excited and looking forward to the into film festival, as it will be an experience none of us would have imagined.

I felt as if my input was crucial in our project, this is because in almost every scene I had to be there with either a handheld microphone or a boom pole. However, I found more convenient sound effects for our film on a website 'freesound.org'. I went beyond my role in helping other roles and doing extra for the pre-production process. I helped a good amount with directing what the actor should do or say, the facial expressions he could use and the body language he might want to consider in making his character realistic. On top of that, I also managed to direct what camera angles may work with the scene being filmed.
